About Galleri Lofotens Hus
Galleri Lofotens Hus, Northern Norway`s equivalent of a National Gallery according to VG, a national newspaper, has been built on the foundation of Lofoten`s legendary seasonal fishery.

Through the various exhibitions of our landmark Gallery, you will get a unique view of the very best of painted art from Lofoten through history as well as a better understanding of why the cod meant so much for building the nation of Norway.

Ground floor: The comprehensive collection of classical paintings from between the years 1880 to 1930 goes under the name "The Golden Era of Norwegian Painted Art" and provides a fascinating view on how Lofoten`s legendary seasonal fishery took place and how people actually survived a hundred years back in time. All information inside the Gallery is presented in six different languages.

On the same floor you can also experience the Multimedia show "The Magical Islands", Frank A. Jenssen`s masterpiece of a slide show which consists of nature sounds, music and pictures from Lofoten through all seasons of the year. The show room has 120 sitting places and a duration of 19 minutes. Our rich gift shop is also located on the ground floor.

1st floor: Exhibition of the nationally recognized painter and graphical artist Karl Erik Harr who masterly illustrates the nature of the Lofoten islands as well as the Lofoten`s legendary seasonal fishery from around 1960 and until today`s date.

2nd floor:
On this floor we take our guests through a historical and factual journey of the cod and Lofoten`s great seasonal fishery. This among other comprises a large photo exhibition of A. Wilse from around the year 1910.

Guiding and finger food:
Groups can also preorder beverages and finger food based on raw materials from the Cod and Lofoten islands. Galleri Lofotens Hus also offers guiding through the comprehensive art collection as well as lectures about Lofoten`s legendary seasonal fishery and the cod`s significance for Norway as a nation.
